Thank you, West Pecan Coffee + Beer, for inviting me out to try your food! While I did receive some complimentary treats, all opinions are my own. Now, let’s get to it!
I’ve been following West Pecan Coffee + Beer on Instagram since before they even opened. They had a very industrial, clean lines, modern feeling and I just knew – this place is going to be cool. I contacted Mary and Josh (the owners) and told them I wanted to stop by when they opened up. I was not disappointed.
Located in downtown Pflugerville, West Pecan Coffee + Beer brings what was missing to the area – a good, family-friendly coffee shop. The space was originally a gas station (how unique!), then was converted into a retail space. When Mary and Josh saw the wall of windows, they knew this would be the perfect place for their coffee shop! The interior is very spacious and bright. There are several seating options, including a bar stool area with lots of outlets, a large, family-style table, comfy couches, and smaller tables with chairs.
While the coffee bar takes up the bulk of one of the walls, it’s flanked by two very homey feeling areas. The family-style table has a wall of shelves with various books, games, and knick-knacks. There’s a mural being painted by the owners’ family friend. Opposite the cozy corner, there’s a small children’s play area! This truly is a space for all to enjoy.
West Pecan Coffee + Beer is serving coffee in the traditional Italian way. For example, their macchiatos are served in the traditional espresso sized cup with just a drop of steamed milk. Their cortado is served in a cortado glass (the little rocks glasses). They offer french press, pour over, regular brew… you name it! I really appreciated their attention to detail and concern for coffee as a craft. My latte was delicious, by the way.
Clearly, I was there for the coffee, but, as their name suggests, they also serve beer! The have seven beers on tap with a variety of others in bottles and cans.
In addition to their wide variety of loose leaf tea, they receive pastries from two local bakeries – Lil’ Mama’s Kitchen and Proverbial Dough. Proverbial Dough made the cream cheese danish I tried (loved it) and they also make some pretty amazing sugar cinnamon rolls.
Overall thoughts – if you live in Pflugerville, this should be your coffee shop. The baristas (who included owner Josh when I was there) are extremely personable and really care about the customers that are coming in. They almost seemed to conference with people about what kind of coffee would be best for them. I loved it! It’s also clear this is meant to be a place for people to linger. They’ve set it up so loved ones can come and enjoy face-to-face family / best friend time over some delicious beverages. Also, their Modest Mouse “Pandora Moods” playlist was amazing.
Keep it up, West Pecan Coffee + Beer! I hope Pflugerville gives you the business you deserve. Here’s owner Josh hand painting the lettering on the wall. It doesn’t get more family-owned than that!
