Taco Man 512

Thank you, Taco Man 512, for inviting me out to try your new menu and drinks! While I did receive some complimentary treats, all opinions are my own.

Taco Man 512 is a taco food truck located in the heart of South Congress. They have an excellent location, with covered tables (there are stools, even though none are pictured below) and turf grass. It’s a really nice place to take a break. When you get to Taco Man 512, it feels like you’ve arrived to a big family party. There’s great music, chefs cutting the al pastor, kids running around with their aguas frescas – it’s wonderful!

They’ve only been open 4 weeks and have already made an impression on South Congress. Taco Man’s goal is to elevate the taco – it’s all about the experience of eating tacos!

The Taco Man himself is Tom Ramsey. Tom is the owner of Snappy Snacks Mobile Catering in Pflugerville, Texas. Tom’s story is pretty interesting – he’s been operating food trucks since 1977. Snappy Snacks offers a behind-the-scenes look at the food truck industry. The following blurb is from their website:

Snappy Snacks Mobile Catering is a national leader in the burgeoning mobile catering business, leasing mobile catering trucks and providing all the essential supplies, services, and equipment to independent operators. Snappy Snacks Mobile Catering offers an entrance to business entrepreneurship to individuals ready to take on the challenges of becoming business owners by offering personal mentoring and on-site training and consulting. Snappy Snacks is currently home to more than 70 food trucks.

Taco Man Tom is a thriving entrepreneur, and what’s most important to him is elevating the entrepreneurs around him, who are operating their own food trucks through Snappy Snacks. The success of his team is what matters most to him. With the launch of Taco Man 512, Tom is finally living his best life and starting his own brand.

The Taco Man 512 food truck specializes in tacos al pastor and MAN are they good. They also have some pretty delicious vegan tacos made with black beans and nopales (cactus!). Along with the al pastor, they are also cutting grilled pineapple of a skewer and adding that to their tacos. I ordered the quesadilla with al pastor and I was not disappointed. I also ordered one of their aquas frescas – watermelon. It wasn’t overly sweet, which I appreciated. Taco Man 512 served all their food on environmentally friendly branded bamboo boards – no trash! They’re in the process of creating cups that you can take with you as well, in place of disposable plastic.

Taco Man 512 is the perfect place to stop while you’re shopping on South Congress. If you don’t feel like sitting down for a huge meal, grab some quick tacos and refreshing aguas frescas at Taco Man 512. Tell them DiscoveringATX sent you!
