Unit-D Pizzeria

Thank you, Unit-D Pizzeria, for hosting our last Austin Food Bloggers Alliance happy hour! While I did receive some complimentary treats, all opinions are my own.

There are several new items on the Unit-D Pizzeria menu and I was more than happy to try them out. I kept being asked, “What was your favorite menu item tonight?” and I couldn’t answer! Everything I tried was very impressive and delicious.

Unit-D Pizzeria gave the Austin Food Bloggers the VIP treatment. We had specially made menus for the evening and got to sample a bit of their wine selection. I tried their red “Parts and Labor” because it had the coolest packaging.

Their antipasti is a new item on their catering menu. That’s right, Unit-D Pizzeria does catering now! The antipasti platter has bread and butter cauliflower, stuffed cherry peppers, olives, and little funnel wraps of meats and cheeses. Also on their catering menu are their sandwiches. They have several kinds of little hand sandwiches, but I tried the turkey.

Unit-D Pizzeria is also adding new vegan items to their menu. They now offer a vegan charcuterie board. How interesting is that!? I had no idea it was vegan and just started digging into it. I will say – not bad! The bread that comes with the antipasti and the charcuterie board is TO DIE FOR. I love me some carbs, and the bread pieces… so good. Our table ate several bowls full. It’s made from their pizza dough, just prepared a bit differently.

Two salads were being offered – a kale salad with lemon, cashews, millet, golden raisins, and pickled peach pieces and an arugula salad with strawberries, avocado, pistachios, mint, and poppy seed vinaigrette.

Unit-D Pizzeria has an excellent happy hour on weekdays from 5-7pm (Monday from 5-10pm is also $2 pint night!). A new item on their happy hour menu (and regular dinner menu) is their fennel and rosemary meatballs.

Now to the main event square Sicilian style pizzas ($5 per slice during happy hour)! Their dough is never refrigerated and its wonderful flavor comes to life with a 30-year-old sourdough starter. It is deliciously fluffy and perfectly dense. I LOVED it. I tried their pepperoni primo.

Finally, a new dinner and catering item is their zeppolis – little fried dough pieces with a choco-hazelnut filling, topped with powdered sugar.

Thank you, Unit-D Pizzeria for such a wonderfully catered evening! I know that I’ll be back with all my teacher friends for happy hour sooner rather than later.
