Thank you, Napa Flats, for inviting me out to try your menu and experience your wonderful California-inspired restaurant! While I did receive complimentary food and drinks, all opinions are my own.
Described as “Californian with an Italian flare in a polished, casual setting,” Napa Flats Wood-Fired Kitchen is a perfect place to spend your evening. Whether you are in need of a romantic date night spot or a family dining experience nicer than your usual chain restaurant go-tos, Napa Flats fits the bill.
I visited the Napa Flats on 620 for the first time a few weeks ago. Outside, there’s a large covered patio with a play place just off the deck – perfect for families with small children. The interior of the restaurant is much more intimate. Smaller tables surround a wood-fire oven, creating an upscale environment. There’s also a parking lot for you to use! Always a plus in my book.
Owner and founder Tom Kenney describes the vision behind Napa-Flats:
Our goal was to open a neighborhood restaurant and share our love of chef-inspired food with our friends, family and community. Our vision was simple: cuisine inspired by California flavors with an Italian flair, made from scratch and then prepared in an open kitchen over a wood–fired grill.
I’d say vision achieved. We tried three appetizers: a wood-fired avocado filled with chimichurri sauce on top of a bed of sweet corn salsa and served with tortilla chips, lobster bites in a soft, grilled hotdog bun, and (my favorite) their Palo Alto dip. It’s made with sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, and green onions blended with ricotta and cream cheese, served with Napa Flats bread.
They also have a wide variety of beautiful cocktails, including sangria, margaritas, frosé, a skinny cowgirl, lavender prosecco, a frozen peach bellini and more. Pictured below is their strawberry sunburst – gorgeous! It had been a long day at school and I was exhausted, so I just ordered a beer, but now I’m kicking myself! I can’t wait to go back and try some more items from their cocktail menu.
By the time entrees came out, I’d already eaten ten pounds of Palo Alto dip, but I still sampled them anyway! Dinners vary from a heavier bowtie pasta dish, to fresh Sonoma chicken, to a lighter ahi and avocado salad. Of course, there’s also their wood-fired pizza!
For dessert (always room for dessert!) we had their Ghirardelli brownie with peanut butter gelato. The brownie is flourless (GF) because they wanted to softest, gooey-ist, moistest brownie they could make. Also, Napa Flats’ gelato operation is no joke. They ordered gelato machines from Italy – the real deal. They have a whole gelato space at their counter with 11 flavors plus a “Flavor of the Day.” It’s pretty wonderful stuff.
Napa Flats, not only was I super impressed with your menu, but I was extremely impressed with your staff and service. Tom Kenney came out and introduced himself as owner and Chief Bus Boy. That tells you a lot right there. Chef Michael McNeilly came over to our table, pulled up a chair, and told us all about his work. It was wonderful! You truly get a family feeling from the restaurant and I cannot wait to go back.
