Starting Saturday, December 1st, there’s a new brunch spot in town – Artista Rosso! It’s located in a pretty great spot at Lamar Union. There are lots of other shops and coffee shops in the area, but this is where you should eat. You can also park in the Lamar Union parking garage for free for up to three hours. I was invited out to try Artista Rosso’s new brunch menu and here are my thoughts!
The interior of Artista Rosso is pretty cool. It has a small market in the back, along with a bar with over 20 taps, a little bakery with tea, cannoli, and a Nutella crepes bar, gelato, breakfast tacos, a ton of wine, cigars, an olive and cheese bar, a coffee bar… it’s small but packs a lot of different options!
The menu is small, but it has a great variety of everything you could want. There are sweet and savory options, along with coffee and mimosas. Breakfast comes with a complimentary coffee, but I’d definitely order a mimosa as well. I’d say the sweet breakfasts stole the show. The blueberry pancakes, served with a huge scoop of cinnamon cream cheese butter, are absolutely delicious. The sides are also very impressive. The potatoes (large enough to share with the table) are wonderfully seasoned and crispy. The fruit cups are packed with mango, strawberries, blueberries, and grapes. No honeydew fruit cups here! Also, the plating is beautiful. I loved the blue ceramics.
Other notable breakfasts include the eggs benedict, breakfast casserole, and brioche french toast. The eggs benedict came with perfectly poached eggs and an enormous serving of ham. It’s served on top of a biscuit half. In my opinion, I think the biscuit could have been better. It was a little hard and cracked apart when I tried to eat it. The toppings were so good! Hopefully, the biscuits will eventually match the tasty eggs and ham. If you’re really hungry, order the brioche French toast. It’s a massive serving of thick delicious toast. The breakfast casserole was also pretty good. Pro tip – ask for some tortillas to go with it.
Mark your calendars – December 1st. Head to South Lamar when the brunch craving hits. Other menu items include a garden hash and biscuits and gravy. Brunch will be Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 3pm. However, f you come between 9-11am, you can get $3 off entrees! It pays to be an early riser sometimes!
Thanks for the preview invitation, Artista Rosso! I hope you guys have a successful launch on the first.
