Teal House Coffee & Bakery

Teal House Coffee & Bakery is a family-operated cottage business focused on hand-crafted coffee and handmade baked goods. Run by the Phillips family, their story starts in 2016 when they posted cinnamon rolls and pies for sale on Facebook. Within a few months, they had neighbors ordering tens of dozens of cinnamon rolls and Teal House Coffee & Bakery was born!

While I did receive free coffee and pastries, all thoughts and feelings are my own.

Teal House quickly made a splash in the foodie community because of their cinnamon rolls. In 2018, Eater Austin did an article on them and then put them on a list of 28 best bakeries in Austin. From there, popularity grew. I’d had them on my “to-visit” list for a long time, but just never made it down there. They’re located in the southeastern corner of Austin at 1716 East Slaughter Lane.

Their menu has quickly expanded from the ever popular cinnamon roll. They now also bake pies, kolache, and sweet and savory croissants while they continue to experiment with new baked goods, such as kouign-amann (a kind of French pastry). While it’s super hard to choose favorites (all of it was absolutely delicious!), I’d say the cinnamon roll croissant was my favorite sweet item, and the kolache was my favorite savory item. They use real andouille sausage in them – not hotdogs!

The coffee was also amazing. I was pleased to see they’re as passionate about making good coffee as they are about making good pastries. I tried their seasonal blackberry honey latte and OMG it was delicious. As someone who takes the coffee-dessert pairing very seriously, I appreciate their attention to brewing a good cup.

Teal House does catering as well! I know I’m already thinking about when I can get their truck out to our school… They bake EVERYTHING and brew all the coffee inside the food truck. It’s extremely impressive and I’m not sure how it’s done, honestly. When they do catering events, they just pull the truck to wherever you need them and bake fresh on the spot.

At their location on East Slaughter Lane, they have parking and a few covered tables. It’s nothing super fancy and you’re not really going to walk anywhere with your baked goods (it’s just a busy street next to a gas station). However, they are neighbors with Dukes Mini Golf! It’s an 18 hole course that is incredibly well taken care of. No torn up turf here! You can grab some breakfast from Teal House, then take your coffee to-go as you putt-putt around the course.

Teal House’s hours are as follows:
Monday – Thursday, 6:30am -12:00pm
Friday, 6:30am – 1:00pm
Saturday, 8:00am – 1:00pm
Sunday, Closed

Thank you so much, Teal House Coffee & Bakery and Dukes Mini Golf for inviting me out to see your stuff! You better believe I’ll be back.
