Thicket South Austin Food Park

Thicket Food Park in South Austin is SUCH a gem. Adam, the developer of the food park, lives just a mile away. He wanted somewhere South Austinites could gather, build community, and enjoy great food. He imagines families meeting for playdates, teachers doing BYOB happy hour hangouts, and friendly picnics under the string lights.

I have to say – I totally see it. 

Adam invited the Austin Food Bloggers Alliance out to the park to try 5 of their food trucks. Honestly, each truck was more impressive than the last! Everything I ate was exceptional. It was like visiting 5 different restaurants from around the world.

Thicket has a wide variety of food, from Italian to Thai to morning coffee, from Hawaiian to vegan. There’s something for everyone at this food park! There is also a salon and barbershop (!). The park is kid and dog-friendly, with plenty of lights, tables, restrooms, parking, and places for the kids to play.

In no particular order, here are the trucks! The Perfect Bite has all kinds of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and small bites. They also have a very affordable kids menu. Two things really struck me about The Perfect Bite – their meatloaf sandwich and their fried pickles. Both were INCREDIBLY delicious and I’ll for sure be back for them. We also had some of their burgers which were crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle.

Artipasta is an Italian truck that specializes in pasta. It’s clear they labor over every noodle they produce! Personally, I loved their gnocchi – it’s not a dish you can get everywhere, so I was extremely happy to see it on their menu! Overall, I think the crowd favorite was their macaroni with creamy sausage and mushrooms.

Hawaiian food was something new to me! From Hawaii Nei Cafe we tried their spicy ahi poké and Hawaiian BBQ. We had their kalua pork (a slow-cooked whole pig!) and Korean short ribs with rice and kimchee.

A group favorite was definitely the curry from Simpli Thai. Both the chicken green curry and beef Panang curry were incredible! I filled half my plate with their Jasmine rice and green curry. What’s unique about Simpli Thai is they sell little meal kits! You can get all the ingredients you need to make it at home! The inside of their food truck is a little shop. Such a great idea.

Finally, we ended the night with Liberty Coffee. We sampled their golden milk, mango lassi, and smoked salmon avocado toast. I would LOVE to come back some morning and just sip on the drinks from Liberty Coffee.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Adam set up wine for us to enjoy on tablecloth-covered tables and we picnicked the night away! All the chefs and vendors were so kind to us! The owner of the salon even brought us a CAKE. Talk about hospitality and a welcoming environment! I highly recommend Thicket Food Park and cannot wait to go back myself.
