Soley and Tequila Sheela have teamed up to bring us some better-for-you margaritas! You can purchase both Soley and Tequila Sheela on their own, or you can purchase them together and create a dangerously smooth cocktail using your own “Awesome Organic Margarita” kit.
Soley is a 12% alcohol by volume liqueur made in small batches from pressed fruit. There are no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. So if you see it on a store self, it may have separated – that’s ok! That’s what real fruit does. Just shake it up! When you think liqueur, you usually think high sugar, but Soley has no added sugar or high fructose corn syrup. It’s only the sweetness of the fruit that you’re tasting. Soley is simple and can absolutely be poured over ice and enjoyed. However, when you mix it with Tequila Sheela, it becomes a delicious base for a better-for-you margarita. Currently, Soley comes in three flavors:
- Coco – a blend of natural coconut milk and pulp
- Superfruit – a blend of natural pomegranate and blueberry
- Mango Passion – a blend of natural mango and passionfruit
Tequila Sheela is a certified organic blue agave tequila. Organic tequila is made from agave grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, antibiotics, or genetically modified ingredients. Most importantly, the production methods are required to promote ecological balance within the environment. Tequila Sheela originates from the lowlands of Amatitán in the Mexican state of Jalisco. Amatitán is known for producing the highest quality blue agave, resulting in the smoothes and most premium tequila in the world.
Tequila Sheela makes three different organic tequilas: a Blanco, a Reposado, and an Añejo. We sampled the Reposado, which is what comes in the “Awesome Organic Margarita” kit. Tequila Sheela Reposado is made in small batches, aging up to eleven months in American whiskey barrels.
Together, Soley and Tequila Sheela have started selling “Awesome Organic Margarita” kits! If you want to see what the kits look like, click here! I got to try the Mango Trial Kit, but there’s also a Superfruit Trial Kit and full sized versions of both available. All the kits come in a gift box with the ingredients you need, plus a recipe card. They’d be perfect to send to a friend or to make at home one night when you feel like having a better-for-you cocktail!
I hopped on a call with my Austin Food Blogger Alliance foodie friends and we mixed up drinks with Natalie Merrick (co-founder of Tequila Sheela) and Chris Hofbauer (founder of Soley)! At first, I didn’t even use any of the simple syrup. The real mango and passionfruit juice in the Soley sweetened the drink enough for me! I did add some at the end, just to give it a try. It was certainly good, but I honestly think it’s at it’s best when it’s just the natural fruit sugars and the organic tequila.
