The 29th edition of Austin Eats Round-Up is live! Think of these posts as little glimpses into where I’m going and what I’m loving right now. It’s been an… interesting summer. I’m back in school now, but I managed to hit up quite a few fun foodie places during my 5 weeks off. Most of them were places I could quickly pick up food and head out, or places with large outdoor patio spaces.
In my last round-up, I said, “Good news is, it looks like things with COVID and changing for the better!” *face palm* It’s August and COVID numbers are feeling pretty crazy right now. I’m back to laying low, wearing my mask every time I leave the house, and dining outdoors as much as possible. (PSA: Get vaccinated!)
And with that, let’s get into it!

@Tamale_House has served the Austin community fresh, authentic Mexican food from scratch since 1958. Yeah, 1958! You should definitely check out their website and read their story. Patio dining was super easy – find a table, scan and order from the QR code, food is delivered quickly to your table. They have little gardens in the front and the back which really make for some magical patio vibes. We ordered pork tamales, chips and queso (highly recommended), and obviously, some of their Mexi Iced cold brew horchata iced coffee. It’s so good, it’s got it’s own instagram @mexiiced. Have you been to Tamale House? Of course you have – everyone has!
@ZedsIcecream is a pretty cool little spot! They serve “New Zealand style ice cream” and I gotta be honest, I’m not sure what that means. What is New Zealand style ice cream? What I do know, is they’re serving vanilla soft serve (dairy-free option IS available!) and mix in real fruit to make the different flavors. In addition to ice cream, they serve beer and wine! How fun is that? It’s like this place was made for me. I got blueberry mixed in and topped it with chocolate sauce. Delish.
Looking for a new happy hour spot? I highly recommend @lovesupremepizzabar on Manor Road! Lots of parking, large covered patio space, adorable interior, tasty drinks, and delicious pizza! Their counter service was especially great. It was super fast and easy to order, even with a large group, making it a great after-work spot. I’m for sure going back soon!
This isn’t the first time I’ve included OMG Squee in a round up and it won’t be the last! I absolutely love their adorable mochi donuts, soft serve, and drinks (all gluten-free)! Their interior is now open and they have some cute outdoor seating options as well. I’ve really loved watching this little business change over time! My favorite item right now is their milk tea float. I got matcha soft serve with strawberry milk tea… mmmm… Be sure to follow them on instagram because they occasionally do special, limited-releases which are MEGA ADORABLE (look at those Pokemon mochi donuts!!). Following on instagram is also a great way to stay updated on their hours and menu items. They often have power outages that cause them to have a limited menu, so just check before you go to make sure they have what you want.

Want to snag some great instagram photos with your morning coffee? Hit up @Revival.Coffee. Revival is a part of Gabriela’s Group of restaurants (Gabriela’s Downtown, Taquero Mucho, Seareina’s)… need I say more? The spot is trendy, photo-ready, and PINK. I ordered their “Fruity Pebbles” which was a matcha latte with lavender. It was perfect – not too sweet! Be sure to check out their featured drinks board when you order. That’s where you’ll find their most creative concoctions!

I really enjoyed the onigiri from Snow Ball Rice Ball (formerly Rice Ball Co., I believe…)! They’re located at The Crescent together with Snowy Village. The whole Crescent shopping center has really taken off! Kura Sushi, 85c Bakery, Daiso, 99 Ranch Market, 101 by Teahouse, and the newly opened Oh K-Dog are all there! I’ll for sure be back to order more onigiri. I tried their grilled salmon, real crab meat, and pork belly and they were all excellent.
That’s it! The 29th edition of Austin Eats Round-Up is in the books. Follow me on instagram at @DiscoveringATX to see my Austin foodie adventures in real-time! I’ve got plenty more round ups to come, so give the blog a follow too! That way, you’ll get an email when I post something new.
