Beautiful “Luminations” runs through January 30th at the Wildflower Center!

Luminations” at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center continues all this month! Now that Brian’s a Wildflower Center member, we pretty much go to every event without much thought. I’m happy to report – Luminations exceeded our expectations.

Thousands of luminaries illuminate the path as you walk from the parking lot, through the main courtyard, past the “Hall of Texas Heroes” oak tree circle, and explore the light installations. The path is about a mile of well-packed dirt. Not paved, but wheelchair/stroller accessible for sure.

The light installations were awesome! I wish there was more information on the artists though. I need to know more about the ideas behind the Luminations art! There were these massive lily pad / solar panel / spherical tree looking things, a larger than life flower garden, fun glowing circles you could sit in (#selfie), a disco ball making crazy patterns, an illuminated glass maze, orbs in trees, and so much more. I was very impressed! Yes, there were a bunch of kids running around, but it was still a pretty peaceful walk.

Besides walking the Luminations trail, you MUST order a s’mores pack. $5 gets you enough to make two s’mores. They have fire pits set up in the main courtyard area, next to the drink tent. I highly recommend an adult hot cocoa to go with your s’mores. Call me a sucker for simple things, but we had so much fun roasting marshmallows, drinking cocoa, and hanging out around the fires. It helped that the Texas weather that night was around 70 degrees!

Tickets are free for those 4 and under, $15 ages 5-17 ($10 for members), and $25 ages 18+ ($20 for members). We spent about an hour and a half walking around, taking fun photos, eating s’mores, and drinking drinks.

Luminations runs Thursday – Sunday from 6pm – 9pm until January 30th this year. You’ll need to reserve tickets, so do that ASAP! We arrived around 7pm and it wasn’t very crowded. By about 8ish, though, there were noticeably more people.

It was such a fun evening – Luminations at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is has definitely been added to our fun Austin winter events list!
