Handel’s Ice Cream

Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream has been made fresh daily at each store since 1945.

Their Austin location on Anderson Mill is serving up a delicious selection of ice cream. At any given time, they have over 45 flavors (100 in rotation!) spanning two menu screens to choose from! Once you’ve chosen your flavors, you need to decide how you want it. Want it in a cone, or a dish? In a pint or quart to go? As a sundae with toppings like caramel, marshmallow, peanut butter, or hot fudge? As a Hurricane with candy mixed in? As a shake? As a Handel ice cream pop? SO MANY OPTIONS!

I always go with a classic cone. Did you know Handel’s cones are ALWAYS 3-4 scoops? That’s what’s up! Blue Monster is Handel’s most popular flavor, so I had to get it. They also have seasonal flavors that rotate through and limited time flavors (like horchata!).

I was lucky enough to tour the Anderson Mill location before opening to watch them make their ice cream for the day! The bases are made with a secret mixture that comes straight Ohio – the birthplace of Handel’s. Mix-ins are added as the ice cream comes out of the machine, then it’s frozen for 24 hours before it’s added to the scooping floor.

Have you been to Handel’s? What’s your go-to order?
