Last week, I received a media invite to the Austin Ice Cream Festival‘s Happy Hour Pop-Up & Pool Party at the Austin Motel! As a way to promote the upcoming festival (Saturday, June 23rd), they had a few sweet and savory treats for us to sample, along with drinks and of course, the pool.
The ice cream themed pool floaties from BigMouth Inc. were a nice touch. There was also a cute space to take photos, provided by Kailo Chic (whose Instagram @Kailochic is pretty awesome, by the way).
I was mostly there for the ice cream, so I didn’t sample any of the food (Taco Ranch, We are Ranch Hand, and Bohemian Barbecue were there). I went straight for The Baked Bear. They make some pretty outrageous ice cream sandwiches. They’ll be at the ice cream festival – do not miss them! I also had a lime and basil popsicle from Odd Pop. They have all kinds of unique flavors of popsicles.
In addition to my ice cream tasting, I sampled beer from Circle Brewing Co.. Circle “Blur” is my favorite, but this time I opted for the “Fanny Pack” because I loved the colors and the name was hilarious.
Back to the festival – There are a few different ticket types you can purchase for the Ice Cream Festival on Saturday, June 23rd. Daytime General Admission ($15) gives you a Sampling Passbook which gets your one sample at each of the ice cream vendors at the festival. The image below shows all the ice cream goodness that will be there!
Nighttime General Admission ($35) includes the Sampling Passbook, but it also includes access to the nighttime headlining concerts – DJ Mel, Tameca Jones, and Lee Fields & The Expressions. If you’re looking to upgrade your daytime or nighttime experiences to the VIP level, you can purchase ZIP Fast Freeze Passes. These passes allow you early access to the festival, an air-conditioned VIP lounge and bathroom area, and, if you purchased the nighttime tickets, access to a VIP concert viewing area. You can also make it a Double Scoop day and get passes to both daytime and nighttime events (plus two Sample Passbooks)!
In addition to ice cream and live music (during the day and night), there are savory food options, contests, games, and alcoholic beverages (for the adults, of course). The Ice Cream Festival website has LOTS of information if you’re wondering what exactly the festival entails or want to see the timeline of events.
